WHAT WOULD YOU WANT TO ASK THE PROBATE JUDGE?

JUDGE WELDON COPELAND

It would be beneficial to have any general or specific questions that any members may wish to have addressed.
If there is a matter that you would like to have covered or any question that you would like answered, please send
that matter/question by e-mail to wcopeland@collincountytexas.govIn addition, the presentation will cover the three areas
of law within the jurisdiction of Probate Courts: (1) decedent’s estates; (2)) guardianships – legal proceedings in which it is
contended a person is incapacitated to the point that a guardian is needed to care for the person and/or the person’s property/estate;
and (3) mental commitments – legal proceedings in which it is contended a person needs to be committed to a mental hospital
because he/she suffers from a mental illness and poses a substantial risk of serious harm to him/herself or others, or is unable
to make a rational and informed decision to obtain mental health treatment.  Discussion will also include why women inherit.
Hint: it goes back thousands of years.  WELDON COPELAND, JR. has a BBA in Management from the University of Texas and
a JD from Texas Tech University.  He spent six years in the general practice of law in El Paso, Texas, and two years as a prosecuting
attorney in southern New Mexico before becoming judge of the Plano Municipal Court in 1985, and a Collin County Court at Law Judge
