SUCCESSION PLANNING FOR PHILANTHROPY
RAMSAY SLUGG

Parents are often concerned that their philanthropic values will not be passed down to the next generation.  However, by understanding what is important to the next generation, and using techniques designed to instill philanthropic values and behaviors, parents may perpetuate philanthropy in the family for generations to come.  For families with private foundations, and even donor advised funds, governance can assist in that process and the latest governance techniques will be discussed in due course. Attendees will gain understanding of how different experiences among generations lead to different learning styles and value structures.  Helping families to understand that, rather than being frustrated by trying to impose their own experiences on the next generation, will help families to instill and carry on family traditions and philanthropic values. Ramsay H. Slugg is a senior vice-president and wealth strategist with the National Wealth Strategies Group at U.S. Trust, Bank of America Private Wealth Management. In this role, Ramsay assists in the analysis of tax and estate planning matters that may affect U.S. Trust clients, and the preparation of thought leadership materials on various estate and tax planning ideas that are used by U.S. Trust associates, clients and prospective clients. Ramsay also focuses on financial, tax and estate planning for ultra high net worth individuals and families.
