Ten Reasons (Non Tax) to Do Your Estate Plan Now!

SHAWNA BROWN AND MICHAEL WALD

People are motivated to do estate planning by a tax avoidance desire.  But even people without a taxable estate need to do estate planning. This presentation will cover the 10 of the best reasons for doing estate planning that have nothing to do with taxes.  Shawna Brown is a tax attorney who currently practices in North Dallas in the areas of estate planning and estate administration.  She was named by her peers as one of the “Best Women Lawyers in Dallas" in D Magazine. She is Board Certified in Estate Planning and Probate by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. She received an LL.M. in Taxation from NYU School of Law in 1978, after attending the University of Arkansas for her undergraduate and law degrees.  In over 30 years of practice, Ms. Brown has also been a tax litigator with the Department of Justice and served as Assistant General Counsel of a public company.  She currently serves as an officer of the Estate Planning Council of North Texas and is a member of the Planned Giving Council of the Parkland Foundation (which supports Parkland Hospital).  She frequently lectures to attorneys and other estate planning professionals on tax and estate planning issues.  Michael. Wald served for 3 years as a Director on the national board of the National Association of Estate Planners and Councils.  A graduate of Duke Law School and the Wharton School of Finance, before turning full time to estate planning he was a consumer protection trial attorney with the Federal Trade Commission in Washington, D.C. and served as general counsel to several corporations, the last of which was TGI Friday’s Restaurants.  He helped form and was the second president of the Greater Collin County Community Foundation.  He also served on the local board of the National Committee on Planned Giving and the American Jewish Committee.  He has been interviewed and quoted as an authority on estate planning in the Dallas Morning News a dozen times.
