Family Foundation vs. Donor Advised Fund

Choosing the Right Philanthropic Entity for Your Client

LESLY ANNEN and GARY GARCIA

Both Donor Advised Funds and Private Foundations can be remarkable tools for philanthropic individuals, but which is the best fit for your client?  Hear from experienced gift planners in this unbiased discussion on how to best advise your clients in choosing the right strategy for their needs.  Gary Garcia, CAP, stepped into his role as director of external relations for The Dallas Foundation in January 2010.  He leads The Foundation’s development efforts, working with professional advisors, potential donors, and others to cultivate planned and outright gifts.  From 2001 to 2010, Mr. Garcia served as controller for The Dallas Foundation.  He has an undergraduate degree in accounting and worked for the State of Texas and PriceWaterhouseCoopers before joining the nonprofit sector.  Lesly Annen, CAP, is HealyPartners’ philanthropic expert. Her broad experience in charitable estate and charitable gift planning make her an important contributor to HealyPartners’ focus on the “why” of our clients’ lives.    Prior to joining HealyPartners, Lesly was vice president for campaign and philanthropy education with Dallas Women’s Foundation. Her experience involves charitable estate planning, family legacy planning, philanthropic education, wealth transfer and values transfer.  She received her BS in Animal Science, Agri-Business from California State Polytechnic University and MS in Agriculture, Public Relations from Texas Tech University.
