PORTABILITY VS. CREDIT SHELTER TRUST:

MAKING DECISIONS WITH YOUR $2-10M CLIENTS

This presentation will discuss the basic rules governing “portability: of the federal estate tax exemption and estate planning techniques available to clients whose estates are in the $2 to $10 million range and practical insights in evaluating which strategy is best for specific clients based on a range of factors, including age, family situation, the size and nature of the estate, estate and income tax consequences and tolerance for complexity in the estate plan.  Shawna L. Brown is Board Certified in Estate Planning and Probate Law with a North Dallas practice.  She has an LL.M. in Taxation from New York University and undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Arkansas. She was included in D Magazine’s list of “Best Women Lawyers in Dallas 2010".  Eric G. Reis is Board Certified in both Tax Law and Estate Planning and Probate Law and is Of Counsel to Thompson & Knight. He graduated with honors from The University of Texas School of Law after receiving his A.B. cum laude from Harvard University. Eric is a Fellow, American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, and a Council Member of the Real Estate, Probate & Trust Law Section of the State Bar of Texas.  Don Totusek is a partner in the Dallas and McKinney law firm of Francis, Orr & Totusek, LLP. Don graduated with honors from The University of Texas School of Law after obtaining a B.S. in accounting from Oklahoma State University. He is Board Certified in Estate Planning and Probate Law and has been practicing for 37 years.

Continuing education credits are pending for this program.
