It then explores how AI can assist in drafting estate planning documents, using a case study where an AI-generated will was challenged in court. The presentation further discusses the advantages and disadvantages of using AI in estate planning, including a practical demonstration of an AI tool that simplifies the creation of documents. Ethical considerations of using AI in legal practice are also addressed, with a case study of an attorney who faced sanctions for relying on AI-generated information without proper review. The presentation then transitions to practical applications of AI in estate planning. Future trends in AI and estate planning are examined, discussing how the landscape of trusts and estate planning is likely to change as AI technology advances. The presentation concludes by emphasizing the importance of legal expertise in reviewing AI-generated documents and the need for maintaining professional competence when using AI tools.\n \nShawn Tuma helps businesses protect their information and protect themselves from their information. He is an attorney internationally recognized in cybersecurity, incident response, cyber risk management, cyber insurance, and data privacy law, areas in which he has practiced for over two and a half decades. He is a Partner and Co-Chair of the Data Privacy, Cybersecurity, AI & Emerging Tech Practice Group at Spencer Fane LLP where he regularly serves as cybersecurity and privacy counsel advising a wide variety of businesses ranging from small and mid-sized companies to Fortune 100 enterprises, across the United States and globally. Shawn counsels his clients with cybersecurity, data privacy, data breach and incident response, cyber risk management, cyber insurance, regulatory compliance, and computer fraud related legal issues, and cyber-related litigation. He is frequently sought out and hired by other lawyers and law firms to advise them when these issues arise in cases for themselves and for their own clients.
