 PLANNING FOR THE MODERN FAMILY

Sponsored by Parkland Foundation

This presentation discusses the myriad of estate planning issues faced by today’s modern family. These issues include: a second marriage where the new spouse is the same age as the children from the prior marriage, a noncitizen spouse and a same sex couple with an adopted child. The presentation discusses a wide range of estate and insurance-based planning strategies that would benefit these clients.  As Director of MetLife’s Advanced Sales Center, Jim Allen oversees and is responsible for a team of attorneys and other credentialed professionals who provide advanced markets support for MetLife’s Independent Distribution. Jim has 25 years of experience in the financial services industry as an insurance agent, registered securities representative, fee-only financial planner and as an advanced markets consultant. Prior to joining MetLife in 2001, Allen spent 10 years with Pacific Life, where he was Director of Business & Charitable Planning in their advanced markets department. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Communications from California State University at Fullerton and his master’s degree in Financial Services from The American College. Allen writes and speaks frequently on a wide variety of advanced markets topics. He has been a featured speaker at numerous national and regional broker/dealer and industry association meetings, and is a three-time author award recipient from the Society of Financial Service Professionals, as well as a co-author of the book, The Tools & Techniques of Charitable Giving. His articles have been featured in many industry publications, including the Journal of the Society of Financial Service Professionals, National Underwriter, AALU Quarterly, Journal of Deferred Compensation and California Broker.
