GIVING TODAY PLANNING TOMORROW

KATRINA PIPASTS

The presentation will review common charitable planning vehicles, such as outright immediate gifts, charitable bequests, charitable gift annuities, charitable remainder trusts, pledges, and the use of beneficiary designations for life insurance and retirement plans. With respect to these vehicles, the presentation will examine considerations in the selection of the optimal strategy including: potential tax implications, technical requirements, transactional and reporting costs, and selection of the appropriate fiduciary. The presentation will also address gift planning from the standpoint of the charity by examining the contents of a dynamic gift acceptance policy. Katrina Pipasts is the National Director of Planned Giving Services and is responsible for the gift administration and investment strategy implementation for charitable gift annuity funds and charitable remainder trusts for institutional clients. She works with a variety of nonprofits to develop and implement best practices for successful planned giving programs. Katrina received her B.S. degree in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Western Ontario and her B.B.A. in Accountancy from Western Michigan University. She earned her Certified Specialist in Planned Giving (CSPG) designation at California State University Long Beach and her M.A. in Philanthropy and Nonprofit Development at the University of Northern Iowa. Katrina is a Member of the Chicago Council on Planned Giving, the National Association of Charitable Gift Planners and the American Council on Gift Annuities.
