This presentation will first provide some basic principles of the ownership of mineral interests and classification of property.  Next, we will discuss estate planning techniques commonly recommended, and then the management of mineral interests in the administration of an estate.   Additionally, we will outline proper conveyancing and perfecting title on transfer.  Lastly, the presentation will outline some ethical considerations for the attorney handling oil and gas interests in estate planning and probate.

Shaun Rainey is a shareholder in the Estate Planning and Probate Section of Cotton, Bledsoe, Tighe & Dawson, PC, and is presently serving as Section Head.  Shaun’s practice is concentrated on estate and wealth preservation and planning, as well as trust administration, and asset protection.  Additionally, Shaun devotes a significant portion of his practice to probate and estate administration, both original and ancillary, and handles contested probate matters. Shaun is Board Certified in Estate Planning and Probate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.  He is a member of the Texas Bar College, a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation, and is presently serving as a member of the Council of the Real Estate, Probate, and Trust Law Section of the State Bar of Texas.

Continuing education credit for attorneys, accountants and financial planners has been approved for this meeting. The handout will be available on the website under the document library a few days prior to the presentation.
